In 2013, Adam B. Shapiro made his film debut in the Emmy-Winning HBO film THE NORMAL HEART. Shortly after the film premiered on HBO, Adam was given the opportunity to put together a show that touched on his experiences behind the scenes of this ground breaking film. Thinking about THE NORMAL HEART got Adam thinking about this concept of "Normal" and what the world thought it meant versus what it actually means. The result was the heart-warming, gut-busting NOTHING NORMAL

The press release said...
Adam B. Shapiro, the bearded, leather-loving teddy bear Bella from HBO’s Emmy winning film, The Normal Heart, is making his 54 Below debut. A 2013 MAC Award winner for Musical Comedy performer, Adam premieres his newest show Nothing Normal, an eclectic mix of songs and stories celebrating the hilarious and precarious sides of life, including some anecdotes from behind the scenes of the movie. Audiences can expect everything from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Weird Al Yankovic, Adam’s personal favorite. Working with MAC and Bistro Award winners Barry Levitt (Musical Director) and Peter Napolitano (Director), with the Barry Levitt Trio, Adam promises an evening of smiles and surprises, showing that, while he might not be normal, he’s got a lot of heart.

NOTHING NORMAL premiered at New York's prestigious 54 Below on September 2, 2014 with special guest, Broadway's Danielle Ferland (OBC Into the Woods) to a packed crowd. The show was also included in the 2014 Winter Rhythms Festival at Urban Stages and continues a residency at The Metropolitan Room.
